IHG Hotels & Resorts, a major global hotel company, announced on December 4, 2025, from London, UK, the signing of the InterContinental Prague. The deal signals the highly anticipated return of the world’s first and largest luxury hotel brand to the Czech capital city.

The new luxury property will feature 137 keys and is expected to open in the first half of 2029. It will join IHG’s existing two hotels in the capital, the Holiday Inn Prague Congress Centre and the Holiday Inn Prague Airport.

The hotel will occupy a historic building at Jeruzalemska 8, Prague 1. This property is part of the European real estate portfolio managed by Generali Real Estate, which includes other prime four and five-star hospitality assets.

Situated in Prague’s Old Town, the structure dates back to 1839 and has previously served as a dance hall, a theatre, and most recently, office space. The renovation is being overseen by Generali Real Estate and will transform the building into the InterContinental Prague.

The hotel will be located near the city’s main Railway Station, offering excellent transport links. The location will place guests within walking distance of key landmarks such as Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, and the Prague Astronomical Clock. InterContinental’s global experience ensures its luxury offering is sensitive to local culture and custom.

Guests can look forward to a luxury spa with a wellness area and a pool, a bar, a restaurant, and the brand’s signature lounge, Club InterContinental. The property will also feature a private garden, offering a secluded space for both guests and locals. For business travellers, conference facilities will be available, and the hotel is conveniently close to various corporate offices in the city centre.

(Mrs) Willemijn Geels, Vice President, Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, commented on the signing: “We are honoured to begin our partnership with Generali Real Estate through this landmark signing in Prague, marking the return of our iconic InterContinental brand to the Czech Republic.

“The milestone not only represents a key moment in our Central and Eastern European development strategy, but also further strengthens IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio in Europe, complementing our existing 34 hotels across these markets.

“Together with Generali Real Estate, we are taking a pivotal step toward delivering an unparalleled InterContinental experience in the vibrant heart of Prague, setting new standards of luxury and hospitality and creating a destination that will captivate guests when it opens in 2029.”

Ramon Spoladore, Head of CEE & Nordics, Generali Real Estate, spoke of the project: “We are delighted that our first collaboration with IHG Hotels & Resorts will see us reimagine one of Prague’s most historical buildings into an InterContinental hotel – one of the most prestigious hospitality brands in the world. Together, we are committed to restoring and giving new life to an extraordinary asset.

“Prague is one of Europe’s most iconic cities and consistently ranks as one of Europe’s top tourist destinations, known for its rich history, vibrant cultural scene, safety and high-end lifestyle. Driven by the growth of the hospitality business, the city’s real estate market is experiencing significant expansion. We are proud to become the new home of the InterContinental hotel in Prague, and to contribute to creating a landmark of luxury hospitality for Central Eastern Europe.”

The InterContinental Hotels & Resorts brand is undergoing a brand evolution, focused on reimagining the luxury travel experience for the modern traveller. This evolution is based on the brand’s belief that travel can expand minds and connect cultures.

IHG currently operates 34 open InterContinental hotels and resorts across Europe. InterContinental Prague will join four other branded properties in Central and Eastern Europe: InterContinental Sofia, InterContinental Warsaw, InterContinental Athénée Palace, Bucharest, and InterContinental Budapest.

The new hotel will further expand IHG’s growing luxury and lifestyle offering in Europe, which includes 112 open hotels and a further 67 in development. This portfolio includes brands like Six Senses Quexigal Palace, Kimpton Quinta da Marinha Cascais, InterContinental Manchester, and InterContinental Belgrade, the latter marking the brand’s return to Serbia after 20 years.
