Industrial vehicle automation company Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) has signed an agreement with SoftBank Group Corp. to form a joint venture. The new venture focuses on bringing autonomous construction machinery to market for major civil infrastructure developments.
Alongside capitalising the new joint entity, SoftBank Group has made a direct investment of $225 million in ASI. The funding will support the growth of ASI’s commercial activities across the broader construction sector.
The joint initiative aims to supply software and hardware solutions that work across equipment from any manufacturer. This technology allows operators to run mixed fleets of haul trucks, loaders, compactors and dozers autonomously on site. Applications targeted by the entity include material handling, earthmoving and civil engineering tasks across railways, airports, waste management and road builds.
“This joint venture with SoftBank positions ASI at the forefront of autonomous construction innovation—built for scale, engineered for longevity, and open to every major equipment brand on the jobsite,” shares ASI CEO Mel Torrie. “Together, we offer automated OEM-agnostic heavy equipment solutions that let customers deploy mixed fleets of haul trucks, dozers, loaders, compactors, and more—all operating autonomously together across complex tasks from earthmoving to vertical construction. Backed by world-class capital and 25+ years of proven technology, we’re not just advancing autonomy—we’re inviting the industry’s leading builders of large infrastructure projects, like roadways, airports, railways, waste management, and other adjacent applications, to shape the future of construction with us.”
Utah-based ASI developed Mobius, an orchestration platform designed to coordinate autonomous vehicle fleets. The new partnership significantly increases the company’s capacity to serve civil construction and material-handling markets.
