The Indian REITs Association (IRA) has joined the Global REIT Alliance, a coalition of organisations representing the global Real Estate Investment Trust sector, in a move aimed at boosting international collaboration and aligning India more closely with global market practices.
The alliance was formally launched during the European Public Real Estate Association’s 2025 ReThink conference in Stockholm. It currently brings together members from 24 countries and regions, providing a coordinated platform for policy dialogue, standard setting and data-sharing to advance REITs as an investment class.
According to the Global REIT Alliance, six priority areas will guide its work: raising international awareness of securitised real estate, strengthening industry coordination, informing public policy frameworks, developing market standards and benchmarks, encouraging sustainable investment, and improving access to market data.
Preeti Chheda, Executive Committee member of the Indian REITs Association and Chief Financial Officer of Mindspace Business Parks REIT, attended the launch. She said the move would deepen India’s integration with global peers: “This development will enable greater exchange with international peers and enhance the Indian REIT market’s global integration.”
Peter Verwer, spokesperson for the Global REIT Alliance, welcomed India’s inclusion, noting: “India’s participation would add perspective from a growing market that has expanded in a relatively short time.”
Formed in 2023 under the guidance of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the Indian REITs Association is a non-profit body representing the country’s real estate investment trust industry. Founding members include Brookfield India Real Estate Trust, Embassy Office Parks REIT, Mindspace Business Parks REIT, and Nexus Select Trust.
By joining the alliance, India’s REIT sector will gain access to global best practices and industry insights at a time when the domestic market continues to mature and attract greater institutional participation.
