EDITION Hotels, in partnership with Marriott International and Red Sea Global (RSG), has unveiled The Red Sea EDITION, the first hotel to open on Shura Island, Saudi Arabia’s most anticipated luxury tourism destination. Following the brand’s celebrated debut in Jeddah last year, this new property defines the next chapter of EDITION’s growth in the Kingdom, offering a contemporary reimagining of luxury and sustainability.
Located along a pristine stretch of Saudi Arabia’s western coastline, The Red Sea EDITION spans one kilometre of private beachfront with panoramic views across turquoise waters and Shura Links, the country’s first 18-hole island golf course designed by Brian Curley. The resort is part of The Red Sea, one of the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism projects and a flagship initiative of Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s strategy to diversify its economy through sustainable development and world-class hospitality.
A Collaboration Rooted in Regeneration
Developed by Red Sea Global, the project is entirely powered by solar energy and guided by principles of ecological preservation. “The opening of The Red Sea EDITION marks a significant milestone in the brand’s continued growth across the region and deepens its commitment to delivering experiences that transcend conventional luxury,” said George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader, EDITION. “As our second property in Saudi Arabia, this resort embodies the EDITION ethos—spaces that are sophisticated, authentic, and deeply attuned to their environment.”
Tony Coveney, Area General Manager for Marriott Luxury Group, The Red Sea, added: “We are incredibly proud to be the first hotel to open on Shura Island, the heart of The Red Sea destination. This moment represents a major milestone not just for EDITION, but for Saudi Arabia’s broader hospitality vision. The Red Sea EDITION will redefine luxury through world-class design, exceptional service, and a commitment to regeneration.”
Design that Merges Nature and Modernity
Upon arrival at Red Sea International Airport, guests embark on a scenic journey across the desert and Saudi Arabia’s longest internal bridge to reach Shura Island. The resort unfolds as a series of low-rise pavilions crafted from local stone and wood, designed by the Rockwell Group to blend seamlessly with the island’s coral dunes and natural contours.
The 240 guest rooms, including 53 suites, reflect EDITION’s signature aesthetic, understated luxury that prioritises texture, tone, and light. Neutral hues, coral stone flooring, and natural oak details create a soothing environment reminiscent of the shoreline. Select suites feature private plunge pools and terraces that open directly onto the beach, offering uninterrupted sea views.
Throughout the property, design elements mirror the interplay of rock, sand, and sea. Earth-toned walls, coral-inspired rooflines, and flowing indoor-outdoor transitions echo the surrounding landscape. The resort’s lobby serves as a social epicentre, an airy space defined by warm rammed earth, oak, lush greenery, and a suspended ceramic chandelier that evokes the natural rock formations of Saudi Arabia’s canyons.
Elevated Culinary Journeys
The Red Sea EDITION introduces a bold new culinary programme with venues that merge international influences and local inspirations:
- The Lobby – a day-to-night social hub, transforming from a serene coffee and pastry lounge into a lively evening bar serving tea-infused cocktails.
- Central – the hotel’s signature restaurant, offering inventive New American cuisine reinterpreted through global flavours and nostalgic classics.
- JIWA Beach Club – inspired by Bali’s vibrant energy, led by Indonesian chefs offering island-inspired dishes and live evening performances.
- JIWA Terrace – a serene, wellness-oriented poolside retreat featuring nutrient-balanced drinks and recovery-focused menus.
- ANASA – opening in December, this Aegean-inspired restaurant is helmed by acclaimed Saudi chef Basma Elkhereiji, blending local sourcing with refined simplicity.
Menus across all venues embrace a wellness-forward philosophy, highlighting seasonal ingredients, clean preparations, and functional beverages designed to restore balance and vitality.
Holistic Wellness and Recreation
The resort’s spa and wellness zone celebrates natural light and elemental materials, featuring coral stone, timber, and desert tones. Treatments incorporate leading brands Omorovicza and Le Labo, while EDITION’s own signature rituals use heated sea stones, mineral wraps, and flowing massages to encourage deep relaxation.
Facilities include a Recovery Dome with hydrothermal experiences—infrared and bio saunas, snow and lymphatic showers, and heated loungers—designed to rejuvenate body and mind. The gym, equipped with advanced fitness technology, offers HIIT, TRX, and Reformer Pilates sessions, complemented by outdoor activities such as water sports, desert hikes, and matches on tennis and paddle courts.
Meetings, Events, and Celebrations
The Red Sea EDITION offers over 1,000 square metres of event space, including a grand ballroom accommodating up to 500 guests, alongside private meeting rooms and outdoor venues overlooking the Red Sea. Every event, from corporate gatherings to destination weddings, is supported by EDITION’s bespoke planning and culinary expertise.
A Symbol of Vision 2030
As the first hotel to open on Shura Island, The Red Sea EDITION serves as a cornerstone in Saudi Arabia’s transformation into a global luxury tourism hub. Shura Island will soon host 11 resorts, a marina, retail precincts, fine dining, and cultural experiences, all within a destination powered by 100% renewable energy and limited to one million visitors annually to protect the delicate marine ecosystem.
With this opening, EDITION continues to expand its global portfolio, now encompassing 21 properties in cities and resort destinations including New York, London, Singapore, Rome, and Lake Como.
