Marriott International has confirmed its first entry into Laos and the expansion of its high-end portfolio in Cambodia through a new partnership with KS Hotels. The agreement will see two established boutique properties, La Résidence Angkor and La Résidence Phou Vao, join The Luxury Collection brand following extensive upgrades.
The move represents a significant step for Marriott as it brings its luxury branding to two major UNESCO World Heritage destinations. La Résidence Phou Vao, located in the former royal capital of Luang Prabang, is expected to open under its new name in October 2026. The hilltop retreat will offer 41 rooms and suites featuring traditional Lao craftsmanship. Planned facilities include a French-Lao bistro called ‘La Brasserie de la Résidence’, a yoga deck and a new wellness sanctuary. The hotel sits just under 5 km from Luang Prabang International Airport and provides a gateway to the city’s French colonial architecture and sacred monasteries.
In Cambodia, La Résidence Angkor is scheduled for a late 2027 debut. Located along the Siem Reap River, the property will act as a low-rise gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park. The plans include 59 rooms, 14 suites and three exclusive residences with private pools. Guests will have access to diverse dining options, including the street-food inspired ‘Khmer Funk’ and an explorer-themed cocktail lounge. A new spa with hydrothermal facilities and six treatment rooms is also part of the development.
Both hotels will undergo enhancements to meet international luxury standards while maintaining their original architectural styles. Anthony Lark, Executive Director at HMD Asia, noted that the franchise framework allows Marriott’s global distribution power to work alongside deep local market expertise. Once open, these properties will join Marriott’s existing Southeast Asian presence in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.
“This signing marks a defining milestone for Marriott International, as it represents the company’s debut hotel in Laos and the entry of The Luxury Collection in two inspiring, culturally-rich destinations,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International. “Perfect for discerning global explorers, these properties are set to blend architectural grace and locally-inspired design. As part of our global portfolio, these properties will continue to celebrate their cultural identity while offering guests the elevated service and immersive experiences that define The Luxury Collection.”
