South Korean builder Daewoo E&C has entered into a strategic partnership with British engineering consultancy ARUP as it bids to secure the contract for the Mok-dong Complex 8 Reconstruction Project. The agreement focuses on bringing specialised technical capabilities to the high-profile residential scheme, which is set to rise to 49 floors.

Under the joint initiative, the companies will review an optimised structural framework tailored to the building layout for Mok-dong Complex 8. The planned development will reach a maximum height of 180 meters. Engineering teams will introduce measures to guarantee structural stability against challenging environmental conditions, including seismic activity and severe wind loads.

An official from Daewoo E&C stated, “Through collaboration with ARUP, which possesses world-class ultra-high-rise structural technology, we will further strengthen our technological competitiveness to create a future-oriented residential complex representing Mok-dong, going beyond simple reconstruction,” adding, “We will propose a differentiated landmark complex that harmonises with the urban landscape while prioritising safety.”

Among its notable international projects, ARUP completed the structural engineering for Merdeka 118 in Malaysia, which stands at 679 meters as the second tallest structure in the world. Its engineering portfolio also features the 632-meter Shanghai Tower in China and Singapore’s famous Marina Bay Sands complex.
