Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River has officially opened as the brand’s first safari property in Africa, coinciding with the hotel group’s 25th anniversary.
Situated on the banks of the Kafue River inside Zambia’s largest national park, the off-grid lodge comprises 13 accommodation units. Designed by Meg Ralph Spaces, the solar-powered camp is built on elevated platforms to safeguard native wildlife paths. It features water purification systems on site and restricts single-use plastics. The resort works alongside conservation organisation African Parks, which has managed habitat restoration and animal translocations in the 22,480 km² park since 2022.
The lodge’s accommodation includes three 110-square-metre Horizon Terrace Suites set 14.3 metres above the ground and accessible by glass elevator. These suites feature open-air decks with star beds and personal Green Egg BBQs. Nine 115-square-metre Pool and Bush Villas and a 400-square-metre Presidential Villa stand 3.5 metres above ground level, each equipped with private heated plunge pools and dedicated indoor massage rooms.
Wellness options extend across the property through a full-size swimming pool, in-villa treatments and a floating Technogym fitness platform anchored on the river. Dining venues include Luzuba Harvestry, Twalumba Bar & Lounge and a sunken pontoon seating up to four people for private riverfront meals.
Starting rates begin at USD 6,300 per room per night for double occupancy. Rates cover full board, beverages, twice-daily game drives, private butler service and a 90-minute spa treatment per guest. Access is available via private charter flights to Chunga airstrip from Lusaka or Livingstone, or by a four-hour road drive from Lusaka International Airport.
