Dubai has announced plans to construct what will become the tallest metro station in the world. Located at Dubai Creek Harbour, the new station will be 74 metres high and is part of the city’s major Blue Line expansion.
The Blue Line project, approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, will cost around £3.6 billion (18 billion dirhams). Construction officially began on 9 June 2025, and the line is expected to be completed by 2029 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro.
The Blue Line will add 14 new stations to the network, with nine above ground and five underground. Once complete, the full Dubai Metro network will have 78 stations. One of the largest new stations will be in International City, covering 44,000 square metres.
The design of the new Creek Harbour station is said to be inspired by a seashell, and reflects elements of local culture and nature, including earth, air, fire, water, and heritage.
The expanded line will serve an estimated 200,000 passengers daily by 2030, with forecasts of 320,000 by 2040. It will also improve access to Dubai International Airport and other major parts of the city. The stations will include facilities for buses, taxis, bicycles, e-scooters, and parking for people with disabilities.
Emaar Properties has secured the naming rights for the Creek Harbour station for the next ten years.
