Gilbane Development and Western Kentucky University have broken ground on The Southern Gateway, marking the first phase of a $350 million public-private partnership called "Elevate WKU". Designed to replace older residence halls, the 1,000-bed student housing scheme will feature suite-style rooms, study areas, dining spaces and a multipurpose classroom. Construction is slated for completion in autumn 2028.
