UEM Sunrise Berhad has strengthened  its leadership team with the appointment of Shaharul Farez Hassan as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) and Grace Yap Mei Wan as an Independent Non-Executive Director. The company said the appointments support its next phase of growth while maintaining a strong focus on sustainable performance and long-term shareholder value.

Farez will officially assume his role on 17 November 2025. A veteran corporate figure, he brings more than three decades of experience across real estate, hospitality, automotive, and infrastructure sectors. He previously served as Group CEO of Tradewinds Corporation Berhad, where he oversaw significant transformation initiatives, and as Chief Operating Officer at DRB-HICOM Berhad, leading the company’s property, hospitality, and concession divisions.

His corporate experience also includes a board position at Proton Holdings Berhad, where he contributed to strategic growth and transformation efforts. Farez holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor of Science in Economics & Accounting from the University of Bristol.

Joining the Board on 3 November 2025, Grace Yap brings over 30 years of experience in corporate and commercial law, real estate, capital markets, and governance. She most recently held the position of Vice President of Legal, Secretariat, Compliance & Risk Management at CapitaLand Malaysia Group, where she was responsible for overseeing the group’s listed REIT operations.

Her previous roles include key legal positions at Sime Darby Berhad and Putrajaya Holdings Sdn. Bhd.. Grace currently serves on the boards of Bata Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and Sungei Bagan Rubber Company (Malaya) Berhad.

He added that, alongside recent Board appointee Eric Chan, the new additions bring “fresh perspectives and collective strength in strategy, governance and operational excellence,” contributing to a more dynamic leadership structure at UEM Sunrise.
