CPP Investments and Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. have introduced a joint initiative called the Maple Fund to direct up to C$50 billion into major Canadian infrastructure and key industries.

The framework pairs the long-term capital resources of CPP Investments with the operational and project execution experience of Brookfield. The structure focuses on large-scale, complex developments that demand heavy upfront funding and technical support.

Under the 50/50 agreement, each institution will commit up to C$25 billion in equity capital over an initial five-year window. The venture focuses specifically on major deals with equity needs exceeding C$5 billion. External institutional partners will also have scope to co-invest alongside both entities on specific transactions.

Every potential deal will undergo independent review and approval by both organisations in line with their existing governance frameworks. The Maple Fund operates in addition to standard investment routines for both firms, leaving each entity free to pursue alternative projects independently or alongside third parties. Specific investment deals will be announced once definitive contracts are completed.

“Canada is entering a period of new ambition to advance major projects and build for the future, creating compelling investment opportunities across the country. CPP Investments has the capital, long-term investment horizon and expertise to pursue these opportunities, and the Maple Fund brings together our strengths with Brookfield’s strong origination and development capabilities to help move ambitious projects from opportunity to investment,” said John Graham, President & CEO, CPP Investments.

Connor Teskey, CEO of Brookfield Asset Management, said, “The Maple Fund brings together two companies with a shared commitment to investing in the country’s future. By combining CPP Investments’ scale and long-term capital with Brookfield’s development and operating capabilities, we believe the Maple Fund can help drive a generational investment program to invest in critical infrastructure, industries and businesses that will support the growth of globally competitive Canadian businesses.”
