Property and tourism developer Sun Group broke ground on the U Bo Mountain – Thac Chuoi Lake eco-tourism, resort and entertainment complex on 30 October 2026.

The project represents a total investment of over VND 16,234 billion and aims to attract approximately 5 million visitors annually to Central Vietnam.

Covering roughly 167.48 hectares across Bo Trach, Thuong Trach and Truong Son communes, the masterplan is split into two primary zones: Thac Chuoi Lake and U Bo Peak, which sits at an elevation of over 1,000 metres. A 7 km system of five cable car lines with a capacity of 3,500 to 4,500 passengers per hour per line will link the two locations.

Development will take place across four phases running from Q4 2026 to Q2 2037, with the first phase scheduled to complete in Q2 2028.

At the base of the site, Thac Chuoi Lake will feature a cultural space, open-air theatre, floating food court, shophouses, a hillside villa complex and three hotels supplying 950 lake-facing rooms. At the summit, the U Bo peak area will include the Nagara entertainment complex, VR attractions, mountain railways, ziplines, a wellness spa, 5-star hotels and hillside villas. Construction density at the peak will be capped at 18.8 per cent to preserve natural forest land.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bui Hoang Phuong, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Tri Province, said: “ Besides promoting the value of already famous heritage sites and scenic spots, Quang Tri Province is currently paying special attention to unlocking the potential of pristine natural areas, unique landscapes, distinct climates, and the ability to form large-scale eco-tourism and resort spaces. This is an important direction for Quang Tri Province to not only be a destination for sightseeing and exploration, but also a destination for high-quality relaxation and nature experiences, attracting domestic and international tourists. U Bo – Chuoi Waterfall is perhaps one of the areas with rich potential to realize this development orientation of Quang Tri Province.”

He added: “The value of the project is not only measured by the scale of investment or the quality of the construction, but also by the practical benefits it will bring to the people, creating more jobs, increasing income, improving living standards, and opening up new development opportunities, contributing positively to the socio-economic development of the province.”

Mr. Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, shared: “With a total investment of VND 16,234 billion, U Bo – Thac Chuoi will be a year-round resort and entertainment destination, welcoming approximately 5 million visitors annually. From Ba Na Hills and Fansipan to Phu Quoc, Sun Group has proven that remote mountain peaks and islands can become top destinations in Asia while preserving the forests and the essence of the land. We bring all that experience to U Bo. The project will supplement Quang Tri with large-scale tourism products that the province currently lacks, create jobs and livelihoods for the people, and provide a sustainable source of revenue for the locality; contribute to completing the chain of destinations in Central Vietnam from Phong Nha – Ke Bang, Hue Imperial City to Da Nang and Hoi An; and contribute to the goal of welcoming 45 to 50 million international tourists by 2030 as set out in Resolution 26.”

Quang Tri expects to welcome 9.6 million visitors in 2025, generating VND 11,040 billion in tourism revenue. The project aims to improve local living standards, with provincial average incomes currently standing at 4.502 million VND per person monthly.
