Budapest has welcomed a new landmark in luxury hospitality with the opening of The St. Regis Budapest. The hotel is located inside the Klotild Palace, a Neo-Baroque building that dates back to the Austro-Hungarian Golden Age. This debut marks the first time the St. Regis brand has operated in Hungary. The property sits close to the Danube and Elisabeth Bridge, providing a central location for international travellers.

Princess Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha originally commissioned the twin palace at the start of the 20th century. Architects Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl designed the structure, which is now a UNESCO-listed site. A 48-metre tower defines the exterior, featuring replicas of the crown of Archduke Joseph Karl.

The hotel offers 63 rooms and 39 suites for its guests. The Presidential Suite is the largest option, covering 169 square metres with a private balcony. The interior design reflects the movement of the Danube River through blue tones and shimmering finishes. Design elements also pay tribute to the Hungarian State Opera House, with rooms styled to resemble private theatre boxes.

George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader of St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, stated: “The St. Regis Budapest stands as a remarkable expression of architectural heritage, one that feels inherently aligned with the legacy of St. Regis. The Astors, our brand’s founding family, were drawn to places where culture, society, and celebration converged, and Budapest embodies that spirit. Bringing the House of Astor to Klotild Palace is a natural extension of that legacy, introducing our signature rituals, legendary St. Regis Butler Service, and enduring glamour to one of Europe’s most storied capitals, where every moment is designed to be celebrated.”

Dining options include the 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant and the Klotild Patisserie. The St. Regis Bar features a layout inspired by an orchestra stage. Head Mixologist Norbert Tengely has created a local version of the Bloody Mary called The Crown Mary. For relaxation, the St. Regis Spa includes an indoor pool, a hammam and a Finnish sauna. It uses products from the local brand Omorovicza and the French brand Sothys.

The hotel also provides several event spaces, such as the John Jacob Astor Boardroom and the Caroline Salon. This opening expands the luxury footprint of the brand across Europe by reviving a significant historical monument.
