Global hospitality group Accor has unveiled its Sustainability Innovation Program. This five year initiative aims to fast-track the testing and commercial scaling of resource management systems across its worldwide accommodation portfolio. Operating on a strict timeline, the corporate scheme aims to deploy more than 100 high-impact ecological solutions by 2030.
The launch marks a transition for the Paris-based firm from fragmented regional trials to a centralised, scalable model. The framework utilises a defined four-phase pathway tracking from initial framing and sourcing through to real-world hotel testing and full network integration. Successful trials will roll out across Accor properties and be shared with the wider commercial hospitality sector. This strategy supports the firm’s overarching Hosting Change roadmap, which aims to convert traditional hotel locations into resilient, resource-efficient and circular operating environments.
The opening year of the programme targets commercial water reduction, which management identified as an immediate double materiality operational risk. The group has already taken initial conservation steps, securing a 5.2% drop in total water intensity during 2025 compared to 2024 figures. This movement was partially driven by installing low-flow bathroom infrastructure across more than 1,100 hotels.
To expand these efforts, Accor has signed a strategic launch partnership with Water Unite, a specialist global non-profit organisation. The joint operation will pilot new technical platforms focused on water reuse mechanisms and premium efficiency tracking systems. These projects aim to validate performance metrics ahead of the upcoming 2026 UN Water Conference.
Coline Pont, Group Chief Sustainability Officer of Accor commented: “Balancing growth and sustainability continues to be a major challenge for the hospitality sector and our ambition is not only to improve performance and reduce our impact within our own hotels, but to act as a positive catalyst for the wider industry by sharing solutions that are proven to work.”
“With the Sustainability Innovation Program, we are taking a structured approach to advancing this ambition. Through our initial focus on water and partnership with Water Unite, we hope to demonstrate how this new approach can deliver real operational impact and network wide value while enhancing the security of the planet’s most valuable resource.”
Louis Goring-Morris, Partnerships Director, Water Unite said: “The challenge is not a lack of innovation, but identifying which solutions can perform reliably in real-world conditions. This partnership brings a rigorous, structured approach to sourcing and validating solutions that are ready to scale. By combining Accor’s global footprint with our network of innovators and investors, we can accelerate the deployment of practical water solutions where they are needed most.”
