Marketing and sustainability expert Mary-Ann Musangi, currently the Managing Director of HACO Industries, has been named the chairperson of a newly constituted taskforce that will spearhead the rebranding of Kenya’s tourism sector.

The 23-member team was unveiled by Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano through a gazette notice dated August 15, 2025. The taskforce will operate for a period of one year, during which it will be responsible for a comprehensive evaluation of Kenya’s image in the global tourism market. Its scope of work will include benchmarking against leading international destinations and developing a refreshed brand strategy anchored on national growth frameworks such as Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

In her announcement, CS Miano said the initiative is designed to give Kenya’s tourism identity a modern edge. “The taskforce will overhaul the ‘Magical Kenya’ brand with the aim of repositioning the country as a world-class, youth-driven destination through innovation, sustainability, and technology-led marketing,” she stated.

Musangi will be deputised by Monali Shah, while Grace Wangui Kamau and Fatuma Huka have been named joint secretaries.

The team brings together professionals from across industries, including Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei, hotelier Mohammed Hersi, creative industry specialist Fakii Liwali, Nation Media Group’s Head of Broadcasting Simaloi Dajom, and Belva Digital CEO Serah Katusya.

Other appointees include Isabelle Rostom, Carolyne Kendi, Zizwe Awour, Nelly Wainaina, Maurice Juma, Timothy Birir, Rosalind Gichuru, Mike Njogu, Yvonne Ogwang, John Waigi, Yvonne Tharao, Stephen Kinyanjui, and Harrison Pemba Taga.

The taskforce will report directly to the Cabinet Secretary and is required to present a full set of recommendations, including an actionable roadmap, within the 12-month timeframe.
