Oman is aiming to attract one million Indian visitors each year, a significant step up from the 700,000 tourists who explored the country’s cultural and natural attractions in 2024. The Gulf nation is concentrating its efforts on high-potential tourism segments such as luxury travel, destination weddings, meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), as well as adventure tourism.

The country has launched multi-channel marketing campaigns to showcase its diverse offerings, targeting leisure and business travellers alike. With its dramatic deserts, pristine beaches, rugged mountains and rich heritage, Oman seeks to provide unique experiences that go beyond conventional holiday destinations. Adventure tourism, including hiking, desert safaris and mountain exploration, is a particularly attractive segment for Indian tourists seeking novel experiences.

Destination weddings have emerged as another key focus, with Oman’s luxury venues offering memorable alternatives for Indian couples. At the same time, the MICE sector is being actively promoted to attract business events, conferences and incentive travel groups from India.

A recent “Focus Oman” roadshow in Jaipur served as a platform for direct engagement with the Indian travel trade. The three-day event brought together 25 Omani tourism stakeholders, including hotels, resorts, airlines and tourism authorities, alongside 150 Indian tour operators. Presentations and one-on-one meetings allowed both sides to explore partnerships, discuss collaboration opportunities and highlight Oman’s tourism infrastructure and cultural offerings.

By participating in such initiatives, Oman aims to strengthen its tourism partnerships with India and better understand the preferences of Indian travellers. The country is also simplifying visa procedures and expanding air connectivity, making travel more convenient. Digital campaigns and collaborations with Indian travel agencies are being used to reach a wider audience and tap into India’s growing middle-class market.

The strategy reflects Oman’s broader goal of establishing itself as a year-round destination for Indian tourists. By promoting its diverse attractions and focusing on weddings, business tourism and adventure experiences, the country hopes to capture a larger share of India’s outbound travel market and reinforce its position as a leading Gulf destination.
