His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed His Excellency Tracy Reynolds, Consul General of Canada in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, to discuss enhanced cooperation in the areas of clean energy, sustainability, and digital innovation.
The meeting highlighted DEWA’s ongoing efforts to expand international partnerships that align with Dubai’s vision for a sustainable and technologically advanced future. Both sides discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between DEWA and Canadian institutions, companies, and research entities, particularly in renewable energy development, smart grid technologies, and digital transformation.
HE Al Tayer expressed DEWA’s commitment to exchanging knowledge and best practices with global partners, noting that the UAE and Canada share common priorities in environmental stewardship, green investment, and innovation-driven economic growth. “DEWA is always keen to foster collaboration with nations that share our vision of a sustainable future,” Al Tayer said. “Canada’s expertise in clean technology and renewable energy complements Dubai’s leadership in sustainable infrastructure and innovation.”
Advancing Clean Energy in Dubai
During the discussion, Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s achievements in renewable energy and decarbonization, anchored by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar project. When complete, the solar park will reach a total capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030, significantly contributing to the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
These landmark strategies aim to make Dubai’s energy production 100% clean by 2050, reinforcing its global position as a model for sustainable development and climate leadership. The solar park already includes major milestones such as concentrated solar power (CSP) technology, photovoltaic installations, and large-scale energy storage systems, all contributing to a resilient and diversified energy mix.
A Focus on Innovation and Digital Transformation
The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration in digital innovation, a cornerstone of DEWA’s operational excellence and future readiness. Al Tayer outlined DEWA’s pioneering initiatives powered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, including projects that leverage artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, and robotics.
These technologies are being integrated across DEWA’s operations, from smart grids and predictive maintenance to customer service and water management, enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and reliability. Through its Digital DEWA initiative, the utility continues to redefine conventional utility models and lead Dubai’s transition into a smart, digital-first economy.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The meeting reflects the broader strategic relationship between the UAE and Canada, both of which have made climate action and innovation central to their national agendas. With Canada’s advanced research capabilities and renewable energy expertise, and Dubai’s ambitious sustainability programmes, both sides see significant potential for joint ventures, research collaboration, and technology exchange.
HE Tracy Reynolds commended DEWA’s pioneering role in shaping Dubai’s clean energy future, expressing Canada’s readiness to collaborate on projects that advance mutual goals in green innovation and sustainable infrastructure. He noted that Canadian companies and research institutions are eager to participate in the UAE’s growing clean energy sector, particularly in solar, hydrogen, and digital solutions.
Dubai’s Global Energy Leadership
Under Al Tayer’s leadership, DEWA has become a benchmark for innovation-driven utilities globally, consistently achieving world-class performance indicators in energy efficiency, reliability, and digital governance. The authority’s initiatives contribute to positioning Dubai as one of the most sustainable cities in the world, while also attracting international investment and knowledge partnerships.
By integrating sustainability with digital transformation, DEWA continues to strengthen Dubai’s role as a global centre for clean technology and future-focused infrastructure. Partnerships such as the one discussed with the Canadian Consulate are expected to enhance bilateral collaboration and drive forward shared objectives in renewable energy and smart innovation.
