Construction has officially begun on a massive VND 10,750 billion cultural and entertainment hub along the Han River in Da Nang. Developed by Sun Group, the Sun Galaxy Complex launched on July 25th in Ngu Hanh Son ward as the first major scheme within the Da Nang Downtown urban zone.
Spanning more than 210,000 m², the riverside development is designed to drive year-round tourism and support the local night-time economy. The centrepiece of the site is an outdoor grandstand and stage with nearly 20,000 seats. Positioned directly opposite the fireworks launching zone, it will host the annual Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) alongside music festivals, cultural events, and international conferences.
The project also includes a 47-story commercial building reaching approximately 183m in height. This structure will house a shopping centre, dining venues, ballrooms, serviced apartments, and a hotel managed by Accor. Public amenities, landscaped gardens, riverside parks, and the undergrounding of a 110 kV power line form part of the broader infrastructure work.
Inspiration for the architecture comes from the moon and the flow of the Han River. The central tower features a circular opening measuring 69 meters across, designed to align visually with a planned 69-story tower in Da Nang Downtown. Developers created this layout under the theme “The Moon meets the Sun on the River of Light”.
The scheme follows international venue models such as The O2 in London, which adds over £300 million each year to its local economy and supports around 4,550 jobs, or the Sydney International Convention Centre, which welcomed 1.2 million visitors across 507 events in 2023–2024. By combining event space, accommodation, retail, and public parks, the complex aims to encourage longer visitor stays and provide continuous economic benefits beyond peak festival periods.
Private funding covers the entire scheme, aligning with national cultural policies under Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW to develop competitive cultural industries through private investment. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, delivered a speech.
