Hard Rock International has announced a major partnership to develop its first resort and residential project in Puerto Rico. The $850 million (£670 million) Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan is a new-build development created alongside Misla Hospitality, Stonecrest Investment Management and The Interfin Companies. Construction is set to begin in the middle of 2026, with a grand opening scheduled for 2029.

The project is designed by Klai Juba Wald and CMA Architects. The buildings will draw inspiration from the musical and cultural history of the island, featuring works by local community artists. Located next to the historic Old San Juan district, the site will offer views across San Juan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Governor of Puerto Rico, Jenniffer González-Colón, said: “The launch in San Juan of the first hotel, casino, and residential complex by the prestigious firm Hard Rock International, with construction set to begin mid-year, opens a world of possibilities for economic development. This significant $850 million investment, in addition to generating jobs and becoming another attraction for the island, helps continue positioning Puerto Rico as an ideal destination in the Caribbean — a destination for tourism, living, and global investment.”

The resort will house 415 rooms and 58 suites, alongside 186 branded residences. It is expected to become a hub for entertainment, featuring event spaces, a recording studio and an integrated casino. Amenities include the signature Rock Spa, three terrace-level swimming pools and a range of dining options from casual poolside bars to high-end restaurants. Families will also be catered for with a dedicated kids’ club and teen hangout areas.

Jeff Hook, Chief Operating Officer at Hard Rock International, said: “Music is at the heart of both Hard Rock and Puerto Rico, making this a perfect union. San Juan is a natural extension of our portfolio, creating a seamless Hard Rock experience for guests traveling between our international properties. We’re honored to create a destination that celebrates Puerto Rico’s rich music and arts scene, and we look forward to welcoming visitors and locals alike to experience the island’s dynamic cultural landscape.”

The development is expected to create 2,500 construction jobs and 1,250 permanent roles once operational. Located near the cruise ports and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, the project aims to attract international events and conventions to the island.
