The Grand, York has officially launched SubRosa, an exquisite new spa located within the historic vault of the hotel. The facility follows a significant £2.8 million refurbishment that took six months to complete. SubRosa is intended to offer a unique and state-of-the-art wellness experience, drawing inspiration from global practices.
The city-centre spa is the first in the North of England to feature treatments by the bio-tech brand SeaBody. These use advanced marine bioactive ingredients in results-driven facials to restore the skin. Guests will also find Moroccan-inspired treatments through a collection of marocMaroc rituals. These use argan oil and amber to cleanse, rejuvenate, and detoxify. Experiences include a serene hammam journey and the ultimate rasul ritual, both exclusive to SubRosa in York. In addition to advanced treatments and calming massages, the spa offers an Immersive Sunlight Experience designed to energise the mind, body, and soul.
The new facilities are extensive; they include a Tirol hot sauna, a Himalayan salt sauna, a Salt and Light Therapy room, a herbal steam room, and a herbal lounge. The spa also boasts a large hydrotherapy pool, foot spas, and a dedicated relaxation room.
SubRosa has curated three distinct wellness rituals tailored for different lengths of stay, allowing guests to re-emerge feeling renewed and revitalised, no matter the time of day: Rosa is a full-day experience where wellness meets elegance, and an invitation to escape the everyday, which includes a 60-minute treatment, full-day access, and a Rasul ritual for two; Alba is a half-day spa experience for those who want to pause and re-charge, including a 50-minute treatment, half-day spa access, and lunch in the SubRosa restaurant; and Radix is an evening experience for those who want to reset for the next day, including evening spa access, dinner in the SubRosa restaurant, and a glass of Champagne.
Emma Sorby, Spa Director at The Grand, commented: “After a six-month refurbishment, we are delighted to now be open. SubRosa doesn’t just offer spa treatments, it delivers thoughtfully curated wellness experiences for each guest, across mind and body, blending globally respected traditions with scientifically advanced products. We can’t wait for guests from near and far to come to relax away from the pressures of everyday life.”
Complementing the wellness offering, the hotel has also unveiled the SubRosa restaurant. Executive Head Chef Kevin Bonello has crafted an Asian-inspired menu with dishes inspired by Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Korean cuisine. The menu features sharing small plates and large plates, such as chicken Katsu, Shoyu pork belly ramen, tempura tiger prawns, and vegetable bao buns.
Adam Dyke, General Manager of The Grand, York, commented: “SubRosa is an incredibly exciting new chapter of The Grand’s story. The significant investment has delivered a spa unlike anywhere else in the city. We are excited to elevate the experience of guests as they try the state-of-art facilities alongside an exceptional Asian-inspired menu in SubRosa’s new restaurant.”
