Sun Group and Marriott International have officially signed a new agreement to expand their strategic partnership in Vietnam. The deal was finalised on March 23 in Phu Quoc and outlines the development of 10 new hotels and resorts. These properties will be located in Phu Quoc and Vung Tau, providing nearly 4,500 rooms. The projects are expected to open between 2026 and 2030. Anthony Capuano, the Global President and CEO of Marriott International, attended the ceremony to show his support for the growth of world-class tourism in the region.
The new portfolio includes eight different brands ranging from midscale to premium segments. These are W Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Westin, Le Méridien, Courtyard by Marriott, Fairfield, Moxy Hotels and Four Points by Sheraton. Notably, this agreement marks the first time that W Hotels and Moxy Hotels will operate in Vietnam. The two companies have worked together previously on luxury projects in Phu Quoc such as JW Marriott Phu Quoc and The Luxury Collection.
Rajeev Menon, President of Marriott International for Asia Pacific (excluding China), shared his thoughts on the expansion. He stated, “Vietnam is emerging as one of the most dynamic tourism markets in the world. The number of hotels managed by Marriott International in Vietnam has doubled since 2022. Partnering with Sun Group – one of the highly visionary destination developers, signing an additional 10 hotels this time – helps us continue to affirm our long-term commitment to this market.”
Sun Group is currently working to turn Phu Quoc into a large-scale integrated tourism hub. The island already features the longest 3-rope cable car in the world and several major theme parks. Adding more Marriott brands will help the area handle large crowds and major international events like APEC 2027. Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, noted that global brands help the country compete. He said, “When global brands are integrated into the destination ecosystem, the competitiveness of Vietnam’s tourism will be significantly enhanced.”
To support this growth, Sun Group is also improving transport links. The company has launched Sun Phu Quoc Airways and is working with Changi Airports International to upgrade Phu Quoc International Airport. Marriott will use its Bonvoy loyalty programme, which has 270 million members, to help market Vietnam to travellers around the world.
