Frasers Hospitality has expanded its international footprint with the soft opening of Capri by Fraser, Penang, marking the entry of the social living brand into the local market. Located at 31 Jalan Magazine, the new 22-storey hotel stands near the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The property contains 248 rooms and residences spread across seven distinct categories. Accommodation options range from standard studio rooms to one-bedroom residences equipped with functional kitchenettes, in-room drip coffee set-ups, IPTV with Google Cast and digital concierge systems. Selected units also offer separate living areas, dining spaces and bathtubs. Filtered water systems are fitted inside the rooms or at designated stations across the building.

Company leadership noted that the launch strengthens their regional commercial presence. “The opening of Capri by Fraser, Penang strategically enhances our presence in Malaysia, one of the most competitive markets in Asia. Penang’s distinct character, a fusion of world-class heritage, art and gastronomy, provides a compelling backdrop for our lifestyle-oriented Capri by Fraser brand,” said Mr Chew Hang Song, Chief Operating Officer of Frasers Hospitality. “With Capri by Fraser, Penang, we are creating a social hub where travellers can connect easily with the energy of George Town, whether for short stays or longer.”

Architecturally, the building integrates a preserved heritage shophouse on Jalan Magazine with a modern tower built directly behind it. Kuala Lumpur-based architect and curator Mr Lian Kian Lek managed the visual connection between the historical and new structures. Lian supervised the wayfinding systems and art curation across the site. The interior displays commissioned works from six artists across 15 guest floors, tracking local culture, street scenes and community history.

The site includes a central social lobby called The Den, featuring a Grab & Go food counter run alongside local coffee brand Norm Micro Roastery. Norm also operates the main all-day dining venue, Palm House Restaurant and Bar. Additional facilities comprise a sheltered swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a gym, a yoga room, three electric vehicle charging stations and a combined laundry and games room named Spin & Play. The hotel is pet-friendly and provides access to local pet grooming partners.

The opening follows a regional marketing campaign named Capri by Fraser Takes Flight, which concluded on 30 April 2026. The promotional event involved 258 participants tracking digital motifs to win hotel stays.
