In Ha Noi, a high level business delegation from the US-ASEAN Business Council met with Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van. The discussions aimed to advance partnerships in logistics, transport infrastructure and urban growth. The delegation was led by Penny Burtt, the President of Boeing Southeast Asia, and Vu Tu Thanh, the Acting Regional Managing Director for the Council in Vietnam.
During the meeting, Penny Burtt thanked Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van for taking the time to receive the delegation, and congratulated Vietnam on having recently consolidated its new-term Government, entering a new phase of development with high expectations. She noted that the presence of 52 major American companies showed a deep interest in helping Vietnam develop its airports, seaports and railway systems. Burtt highlighted that as Vietnam becomes a central link in global supply chains, it requires synchronized infrastructure. She suggested that Vietnam look into better ways to manage its airspace to help expand flight routes.
Vu Tu Thanh also emphasized Vietnam’s increasingly important role in the region, and affirmed that the US-ASEAN Business Council would continue to serve as a bridge to promote cooperation between the U.S. business community and Vietnam’s ministries, sectors, and localities, including the Ministry of Construction. The US delegation expressed a clear desire to share expertise in smart city projects and sustainable construction.
In response, Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van welcomed the interest from the American firms. Van added, The Ministry of Construction expressed its desire to strengthen cooperation with U.S. enterprises in the development of transport infrastructure such as airports, seaports, and railways, as well as in sustainable urban development, construction materials, digital transformation, and the training of high-quality human resources. He confirmed that relevant departments would review the proposals from the US firms to help refine future policies.
The Minister also asked that American businesses share more international experience to improve the planning and design of local projects. He stated that the Ministry of Construction is ready to act as a focal point for exchange and support to businesses within the framework of its assigned functions and duties. Both sides ended the meeting by agreeing to keep communication lines open. They hope to turn these opportunities into real results that help the trade relationship between the two nations and support the sustainable development of the Vietnamese construction industry.
