Sun Group Corporation held a launching ceremony on the afternoon of 2 August 2026 for its new Social Housing Development Program and urban infrastructure projects in Phu Quoc. The developer is investing 40 trillion VND to construct nearly 50,000 social housing and rental housing units in the An Thoi urban area. Built to “Singapore standards”, the complex aims to improve local living conditions and support social security as Phu Quoc prepares for international expansion.

The 55-hectare development sits at the southern gateway of the island, adjacent to the DT 975 highway and within easy reach of Hoang Hon Town. Designed around a 15-minute walk model to public functional areas, the site features North-South and East-West green corridors. Housing blocks are arranged with a building density of roughly 28%, preserving space for public amenities, gardens and water features. The surrounding urban area includes schools, medical stations, cultural centres, sports facilities and commercial zones.

This initiative aligns with Notice No. 64-TB/TW of the Central Party Committee Office regarding housing development priorities. The directive states that “Besides housing for sale, priority must be given to developing rental housing, especially rental apartment buildings in large cities, industrial zones, economic zones, dynamic regions, and important economic corridors.” During the ceremony, Nguyen Le Quoc Toan, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, praised private sector participation in expanding affordable housing. Representatives from the Social Policy Bank An Giang Provincial Branch also highlighted transparent preferential credit policies for eligible buyers.

Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, emphasised the human-centric approach behind the investment, saying: “Modern urban development thinking is only truly correct when it places people at the center. The prosperity of a region is not only measured by the scale of construction, but first and foremost by the peace and stability in each of its residents’ homes. With stable housing, people can work and contribute with peace of mind – this is also the foundation for attracting and retaining high-quality human resources and forming a modern, civilized community for Phu Quoc,”

The project arrives as Phu Quoc scales up construction ahead of hosting the APEC 2027 summit. Sun Group is actively managing several major infrastructure projects in the region, including the operation of Sun Hospital since April 2026 and the rapid completion of a 3,300m second runway at Phu Quoc International Airport in eight months. Work is also advancing on the APEC Convention and Exhibition Centre alongside an 18km LRT train line connecting the airport to the venue.
