Hanoi People’s Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony on 28 August 2026 for a series of major infrastructure works in Vietnam, headlined by a project to redevelop the West Lake area. Sun City Co., Ltd., a division of Sun Group, is delivering the scheme under a public-private partnership Build-Transfer contract with an estimated investment of 30,151 billion VND.

Covering 567.75 hectares in total, the plan protects the existing 520.90 hectares of water surface while upgrading 46.85 hectares of surrounding land and smaller lakes. Construction will focus on transport links, public parks, green spaces and new cultural venues.

Central to the project is the widening and landscaping of a 13.5 km lakeside circuit encompassing Nguyen Dinh Thi, Trich Sai, Ve Ho, Nhat Chieu and sections of Quang Ba, Quang Khanh and Quang An. To protect existing homes, the route will use elevated bridges over the water alongside landscaped platforms and footbridges. A continuous Greenway corridor will link local squares, heritage sites, ancient villages, the Central Party Guest House and the Hanoi Opera House.

The project also introduces a network of wharves to open up access to the lake alongside strict wastewater monitoring to protect water quality.

Mr. Tran Minh Son, Founding Member and Standing Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, said that West Lake is a heritage of Hanoi, but until now there has been no project of sufficient scale to renovate the landscape and promote its value.

“Sun Group is committed to implementing the city’s directives, transforming West Lake into a distinctive tourist destination, so that Hanoi residents and tourists can access, experience, and fully enjoy the unique landscape and cultural values ​​here,” affirmed the Standing Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group.

The redevelopment forms part of Hanoi’s master plan targeting a 100-year vision, positioning West Lake as a historic urban core connecting the West Lake – Co Loa – Gia Binh Airport axis with the Thang Long/West Lake – Ba Vi Boulevard axis.
