Philippine real estate firm Megaworld is accelerating its hospitality expansion plan, targeting a portfolio of nearly 12,000 rooms by 2032.
The property developer is launching new hotel developments across prime tourist destinations, including Palawan and Ilocos Norte, while expanding in established urban and commercial centres. The planned developments will feature a mix of Megaworld’s homegrown hotel brands and international hotel chains.
To manage the expansion, the company restructured its hospitality organisation by creating Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts (MGHR). This umbrella entity divides the portfolio into two operational units.
The first unit, Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR), will handle properties in Metro Manila, Boracay, Batangas, and Cebu. Socrates Alvaro has been appointed Managing Director of MHR, bringing nearly two decades of operational experience across international markets including the UK, UAE, Egypt, Maldives, Thailand, and Asia.
The second unit, Megaworld Global Hospitality (MGH), will manage flagship developments including Mövenpick Manila Bay Westside, upcoming properties in Palawan, and three hotels in Iloilo: Courtyard by Marriott, Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, and Belmont Hotel Iloilo. Anna Vergara, an executive with over 32 years of experience at Marriott International, will lead MGH as Managing Director.
“One of our biggest contributions to nation-building is to help make our tourism industry more vibrant and attractive, especially to foreign visitors. To support this goal of helping boost our country’s tourism, we are making this bold move of expanding our hospitality organization with established veterans and innovators in the global hotels and leisure industry,” says Megaworld President and CEO Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso.
“We see tourism as one of the most powerful engines of sustainable economic growth. Every hotel we build creates jobs, supports local businesses, brings visitors to new destinations, and opens more opportunities for communities to prosper. Through our expanding hospitality portfolio under Megaworld Global Hotels and Resorts (MGHR), we want to help continue unlocking the immense tourism potential of the Philippines and bring more of our country’s destinations, culture, and world-class Filipino hospitality to travelers from around the globe,” adds Kevin L. Tan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI), the parent company of Megaworld.
The corporate restructuring comes after strong financial results. In the first half of 2026, hospitality was Megaworld’s fastest-growing recurring income segment, with revenues rising 11% to P3.1 billion. Growth was supported by the opening of the 405-room Belmont Hotel Iloilo, bringing the firm’s total inventory in Iloilo City to nearly 1,000 rooms.
