Construction firm Skanska has signed an agreement with the New York City Department of Design and Construction to build a major waterfront connection in New York City.

The deal is worth USD 163 million, about SEK 1.5 billion, and will be included in the company’s US order bookings for the final quarter of 2026.

Known as the East Side Greenway 14th Street Connector, the project will establish a safe, continuous and accessible waterfront route between East River Park and Captain Patrick J. Brown Walk.

Plans for the development involve building a brand new esplanade along the East River. This space will feature a shared pathway for pedestrians and cyclists, along with public amenities including new seating, lighting and improved landscaping.

City officials hope the infrastructure upgrade will expand access to the waterfront, enhance local connectivity and improve overall quality of life for New York residents and visitors.

Design work for the connector is set to commence shortly. Groundbreaking is expected to take place in early 2028, with project completion currently targeted for the end of 2030.
