Conglomerate Vingroup Corporation has revealed its master plan for the Hung Vuong International Sports Complex, located within the Hanoi International Sports City in the south of the capital.
Covering more than 400 hectares, the site is planned as an international-scale hub for elite athletics, entertainment and cultural events. The complex is engineered to meet standards set by global governing bodies for major tournaments, including the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup.
The centrepiece of the development is the VinFast – Trong Dong Stadium, which spans 73.3 hectares and will offer a world-leading seating capacity of 135,000. The venue will feature the planet’s largest retractable roof alongside artificial intelligence systems and green technology. Set for completion in July 2027, the stadium is intended to serve as a landmark venue for Vietnamese sport and international entertainment events.
Surrounding the main arena is an extensive network of athletic and training facilities built to Olympic standards. Key venues include a 40,000-seat Olympic Stadium dedicated to world athletics and major gatherings, the 12,000-seat Hanoi Sport Arena for indoor competitions and festivals, a 10,000-seat Aquatic Centre for water sports, and a velodrome with a capacity of 4,000 to 5,000 spectators for track cycling.
The master plan also allocates space for recreational and trend-focused sports. Plans outline two 18-hole golf courses created by international designers, a cycling track system featuring diverse inclines and terrains, and a 40-hectare Tennis – Pickleball – Padel park complex housing nearly 300 courts, marking the largest facility of its kind globally. These areas are configured to accommodate professional tournaments alongside daily training for residents, visitors and athletes.
Supporting infrastructure across the complex includes hotels, shopping centres, healthcare facilities, parks, cultural villages and theatres.
Vingroup expects to finish primary construction by August 2027, preparing the site for international events such as ASIAD, the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. Developers also view the project as a catalyst for urban growth across southern Hanoi, aimed at raising the country’s international standing.
