Moxy Hotels, a brand within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, has announced its entry into the Nepalese market with the opening of Moxy Kathmandu. The brand suggests its bold and spirited personality is the perfect match for Kathmandu, a city noted for its blend of ancient culture and modern energy.
The new hotel is located in Durbarmarg, one of the city’s main business and entertainment districts. Its location makes it an ideal launchpad for exploring the area. Tribhuvan International Airport is situated just 15 minutes away. Guests will find themselves close to the UNESCO-listed Durbar Square, the Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, and the vibrant markets of Thamel.
Moxy Kathmandu offers a distinctive blend of local design, flexible social spaces and an atmosphere geared towards connection. The hotel is also positioned near Kathmandu’s emerging contemporary scene, including live music venues, art galleries and indie cafés.
The traditional check-in process is reimagined at The Moxy Bar, which doubles as the hotel’s centre of activity. Guests are greeted with a complimentary hand-crafted cocktail upon arrival. The open lobby features modern art inspired by Nepali culture and is designed to encourage interaction. A recreation zone is available, offering air hockey and board games. The hotel also features the signature Moxy Hookup, which provides guests with spontaneous perks such as a free drink or local delicacies.
The property features 101 guestrooms, which are designed to maximise space and allow for flexibility. Each room includes plush bedding, walk-in showers and 55-inch HD Smart TVs, alongside modular furniture and smart features such as peg walls and motion-activated LED lights. A Fitness Center is also available for guests.
Dining at the hotel is centred on two venues on Level 11. LA HACIENDA – Barra y Cocina Latina offers Latin American cuisine curated by Mexican Chef Martin Hernandez Lopez. The striking design of the space was crafted by New York-based Mexican designer Pablo Castellanos. The venue offers sweeping views of the Kathmandu Valley. For a more relaxed experience, CARIÑO – Terraza Latina is an open-air terrace offering handcrafted cocktails and city skyline views.
Kiran Andicot, Senior Vice President, South Asia, Marriott International, confirmed the expansion into Nepal. He said: “Moxy’s bold, playful spirit is perfectly suited for a city like Kathmandu, where tradition meets vibrant modernity. As demand for experiences that are both unconventional and culturally connected increases, Moxy Kathmandu brings eclectic youthful energy to match the pace of the city. We are proud to introduce this lifestyle brand to Nepal – our first in the country and third in South Asia as we expand our portfolio in the region to attract travelers seeking style, energy, and authenticity.”
Subarna Thapa, Captain, Moxy Kathmandu, added: “Kathmandu is a city full of character. It’s ancient yet modern, vibrant yet laid-back, always moving, always evolving. That’s what makes it the perfect match for Moxy. We’re bringing a hotel experience that’s bold, social, and full of personality, where guests don’t just stay, they plug into the city’s energy, and we can’t wait to see it come to life.”
