Six Samsung Group entities have announced a joint USD 1 billion investment in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an AI infrastructure firm created by global investment house KKR.
Samsung Electronics will provide USD 500 million of the capital, with the remaining half coming from Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance. Established in June 2026, Helix delivers integrated solutions across the AI value chain, encompassing hyperscale data centre construction, power generation, transmission networks and fibre optics.
Former Amazon Web Services chief executive Adam Selipsky leads Helix. The company is constructing a specialist management team supported by KKR’s global infrastructure team of approximately 170 professionals. Samsung joins KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, NVIDIA and American power provider Vistra as founding investors in the platform.
The initiative aims to address power availability bottlenecks that currently constrain AI expansion. Helix plans to secure energy capacity through direct capital investments and strategic alliances with utility developers like Vistra.
Participating Samsung businesses bring distinct technical capabilities to the venture. Samsung Electronics offers memory semiconductors alongside data centre cooling systems through FläktGroup, its HVAC subsidiary acquired in 2025. Samsung C&T will act as an engineering, procurement and construction contractor for data centre and power developments.
Additionally, Samsung SDS brings data centre design and GPU-as-a-Service operational experience, retaining the lowest power usage effectiveness rating in Korea. Samsung SDI supplies battery backup units and uninterruptible power supply solutions essential for continuous server operation, while the group’s insurance arms provide financial backing.
The venture allows Samsung to move beyond supplying hardware components to operating as an active architect across the international AI infrastructure supply chain.
