Scandic Hotels Group and Hilton have entered into a multi-year strategic development agreement covering Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The deal aims to create new hotel development opportunities across the region by combining Scandic’s Nordic operational platform with Hilton’s international brand portfolio.
The agreement focuses on individual development projects rather than a broad conversion of existing Scandic properties. As part of the initial plans, Scandic has signed a franchise agreement to operate a new 284-room Hilton Hotels & Resorts property at Scanport, adjacent to Copenhagen Airport. Construction on the full-service hotel will start once pending conditions are cleared, with an expected opening in 2029. The site will feature a restaurant and bar, meeting facilities, wellness amenities, a fitness area and an executive lounge overlooking the Öresund Strait.
The two hospitality groups share a relationship spanning over two decades. Scandic currently operates three Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties in Finland: Hilton Helsinki Airport, Hilton Helsinki Strand and Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa. A multi-phase refurbishment programme is planned for Hilton Helsinki Airport to modernise guest-facing areas.
“This agreement is well aligned with Scandic’s long-term growth strategy. Having successfully franchised and operated Hilton hotels in Helsinki for many years, we have demonstrated the strength of combining a global brand with Scandic’s leading operational platform. Together with Hilton, we see attractive opportunities to grow and expand our business across the Nordics”, says Jens Mathiesen, president & CEO, Scandic Hotels Group.
“This strategic agreement represents a significant milestone for Hilton in the Nordics, creating a clear pathway to expand our leading brands across four important markets. It reflects our long-term ambition for the region and, together with Scandic, opens the door to significant new opportunities for Hilton, our owners and our guests”, says Chris Nassetta, president & CEO, Hilton.
The expansion comes amid rising demand for Nordic travel, driven by interest in outdoor experiences and cooler climates. In 2025, Sweden registered more than 70 million guest nights1, Denmark recorded around 68 million2, Norway logged over 40 million3, and Finland tracked over 23 million4. Both companies plan to announce future benefits for Hilton Honors and Scandic Friends members at a later date.
